What is a car supermarket?

Car Supermarket's are a relatively recent phenomenon which have revolutionised the way that the British public have bought cars.

They are basically large, independent dealerships which can offer a constantly refreshed and broad choice of vehicles, both new and used, at the cheapest prices around.

What are the benefits?

Due to a combination of high sales volumes and low margins, Car Supermarkets typically sell the same vehicles thousands of pounds cheaper than franchised dealerships or smaller independent retailers! For instance, here at Motor Depot we sell over 5000 cars a year, allowing us to pass on enormous savings back to our customers.

Car Supermarkets also offer a far greater range of choice over franchised dealers. And, with all the cars being on a single site, this allow customers to browse an extensive selection of the most popular brands such as Vauxhall or Ford and makes it possible to compare like for like models.

Another huge benefit to the consumer is that Car Supermarkets are not tied to any manufacturer so are able to offer the benefit of independent, impartial advice complemented by a range of products and services (finance options, part exchange, low deposits).

Is there any compromise on quality?

Certainly not at Motor Depot there isn't. All of our used or nearly-new vehicles undergo an extensive pre-delivery inspection before sale. If the car needs new tyres, exhausts, clutch, MOT, pads, etc, or if we envisage items wearing out soon, we replace them.

Do Car Supermarkets offer part-exchanges?

Some don't, but at Motor Depot we operate a completely transparent part-exchange policy.

When a customer has a vehicle to part-exchange, our aim is to offer the most competitive "Cost to Change" deal. Due to our pricing policy, even if our part exchange price is lower than you may have been expecting or have been offered elsewhere, we are confident that our "Cost to Change" will be lower than any other like for like deal in the country.

Don't fall foul of the tired sales technique of over-allowing which is operated by many franchised dealers and is aimed at misleading customers into thinking that they are getting a better deal than they actually are.

This is where you are offered an inflated valuation for your part exchange, but on the flip side, you will be paying considerably more money for the new vehicle in the first place!

Remember, the only important figure is the "Cost to Change" figure.

Do the cars still come with the same warranty?

Absolutely! Irrespective of where a car is purchased, all cars come with a manufacturers warranty (usually three years from when the car was registered). In the case of "nearly-new" cars, the buyer simply gets the balance of the remaining warranty.

Motor Depot can also offer extended warranties for up to 3 years and comprehensive service plans aimed at providing total peace of mind for you once you have driven your car away.

Do Car Supermarkets offer servicing and MOT's?

Most don't, but Motor Depot's philosophy extends way beyond selling cars - we have an equal commitment to customer care!

Our premises house a fully-operational, multi-franchise service and MOT centre which helps maintain a very high degree of customer retention.

Again, because of the Motor Depot doctrine of high volumes and small margins, our prices are the cheapest around!

When are Car Supermarkets open?

Car Supermarkets are usually open 7 days a week, and there's no need to book an appointment to view the vehicles - you can simply turn up and test-drive any car. Motor Depot Car Supermarkets are located in Birmingham, Scunthorpe, Hessle and Hull.

Are Car Supermarkets here to stay?

Most definitely. The growth of the Car Supermarket sector continues to go from strength-to-strength and most independent analysts expect this rapid growth to continue at further expense to the traditional franchised dealerships.

All in all, you should find that buying from a Car Supermarket like Motor Depot is a cheaper, easier, and wholly more pleasurable alternative than buying from a franchised dealer or a smaller independent retailer.
