Tue 13th Oct 2020

2020 hasn’t been the greatest year for motor manufacturing, but the awards industry still has the opportunity to name their favourite cars and Auto Express has named the Skoda Octavia as their car of the year.

In what is one of the most extensive awards lists, Skoda claimed the overall prize for their compact family car, but also claimed a number of other accolades. In addition to the main prize they also picked up prizes for the best Compact Family Car of the Year for the Octavia. The Skoda Octavia was also the winner of the Estate Car of the Year, completing a unique double for the Skoda. Skoda also claimed the Family Car of the Year for the Skoda Superb.

“It’s claimed overall victory for its mix of real-world attributes that car buyers want,” Auto Express said in revealing the Octavia as the main winner. “It combines space and practicality with affordability and efficiency, tech and kit with refinement, comfort and solid driving dynamics, a new-found premium feel with robust, solid build quality and bags of usability. It’s a brilliant all-rounder; it’s our brilliant Car of the Year for 2020.”

Renault were also big winners in the Auto Express awards, claiming victories in a wide range of categories, including the Supermini, Small SUV and Affordable Electric Car of the Year ranges.

Ford were also triple winners, with Kuga (Mid-size SUV), Ranger (Pick-Up) and Transit (Van) winning prizes.

The Octavia follow in the footsteps of the Tesla Model 3 which won the main prize last year.
