These Are The Best EV and Hybrid Cars Of 2020

Wed 5th Aug 2020

An influential motoring publication has named the very best of environmentally friendly vehicles in their inaugural Electric Car Awards.

In what is a sign of the times and the ever-growing eco-friendly car industry, What Car? has launched a list of winners in a range of categories, which truly demonstrates the wide variety of electric cars now on the market.

Where in previous years the electric car would have been a niche category at a wider awards ceremony, the market is now so mature that they are deserving of their own celebration according to What Car?

Steve Huntingford, editor of What Car?, said: “Our goal has always been to help people buy the best car for their needs and budget, but it became clear that the booming number of new EVs and PHEVs, combined with the intricacies of some of the new technology associated with owning and charging these cars, was causing confusion.

“The variety of electric and plug-in hybrid cars on offer is growing exponentially, which is great news for buyers, because it’s driving up standards. However, recognising that EVs and PHEVs still make up a minority of all car sales, these standalone awards give us the opportunity to highlight the very best models as the car industry swiftly adapts to meeting its environmental challenges.”

From small cars to SUVs, value cars to luxury there was a category for every taste and wallet, and as demonstrated in the list of winners below, there doesn’t appear to be one brand dominating the market. Only Kia and Tesla picked up gongs in more than one category, with a range of brands showcasing the fastest growing powertrain in motoring.
