Yaris Rated Most Reliable Car

Wed 28th Apr 2021

A newly published index of Britain’s most reliable cars has found that a small city-car at the bottom of the budget end of the market proves to be sailing through when it comes to repairs.

Vehicle warranty specialist MotorEasy has analysed its own data to create a reliability index based on a number of factors, including the likelihood of repairs needed and the cost of repair if a trip to the mechanics is required. Cars are ranked on both factors and the make and model which scores the highest on the MotorEasy index is the Toyota Yaris.

There are almost half a million Yaris’ on the UK road network, but with an 5.6 frequency of repairs and an average repair cost of £84, the compact Toyota is certainly a car worth considering if a trip to the garage fills you with fear.

Britain’s most popular cars all occupy high spots on the index, with the Ford Fiesta coming second, ahead of the Vauxhall Corsa, the Focus and the Astra completing the top five. Only one other vehicle, the Mini One came in with a positive score.

Duncan McClure Fisher, founder and chief executive of MotorEasy, said: “These top 10 models have a combined 8.5million licensed for use on UK roads, and for good reason – they are seen as dependable vehicles from trusted brands.

“But digging deeper into how reliable they actually are shows there's some disparity.

“Our data revealed Toyota's budget runaround the Yaris fared best, with lower repair costs and a lower frequency for these repairs.

“Maybe surprisingly it was German brands Volkswagen and BMW that were bottom of our reliability list of these popular models.”
