Yorkshire Drivers Have Most Motoring Convictions

They may have some of the most beautiful scenery in the country, but motorists in Yorkshire and Humber might be driving too fast to see it if the latest research on driving convictions is to be believed.

According to data published by Quotezone, a car insurance comparison site, drivers in Yorkshire and Humber have an average conviction rate of 8.24 per cent, compared to the UK average of 6.73 per cent.

The research looked at data from over 400,000 driver in the United Kingdom looking at convictions such as speeding, reckless driving and also drink drive figures. Whilst London is normally near the top of the list when it comes to negative motoring press, the drivers in the capital get a thumbs up as they come bottom of the table in the UK with a conviction rate of just 5.24 - though it could be argued that with ULEZ and traffic calming measures across London, it is unlikely that drivers would reach any top speeds.

While a motor conviction is likely to drive up your insurance premium in almost every case, Quotezone founder Greg Wilson advises that shopping around for prices could still find you an affordable quote. He said: “Reckless driving, speeding or drink driving can obviously increase your odds of being involved in an accident - but it can also have financial implications by driving up the cost of your insurance.

“If you have previous motoring offences, my advice is to shop around, negotiate and investigate different types of car insurance.”
